Thursday and Friday, December 8th-9th
On Thursday we took the Reading Exam for the "La Economia" Unit. On Friday we took the Listening Exam and then we went over the answers to both exams. Wednesday, December 7th Learning Targets: I will learn how to read, write, listen, and speak in Spanish on the following topics: 1. Job descriptions and work responsibilities 2. How globalization affects the buying and selling of goods across the world 3. I will learn how to use and apply the Imperfect Subjunctive. 4. I will learn how to use and apply "If Clauses." Today in class we watched the cortometraje "La jaula" (the cage). Here are the activities that go with the film. Afterwards, we went over the answers to yesterday's grammar and "La Netiqueta" sheet. Students then were timed for 15 minutes while they completed their first "for a grade" email task. Lastly, we read and listened to 10 arguments both for and against globalization. Tuesday, December 6th Learning Targets: I will learn how to read, write, listen, and speak in Spanish on the following topics: 1. Job descriptions and work responsibilities 2. How globalization affects the buying and selling of goods across the world 3. I will learn how to use and apply the Imperfect Subjunctive. 4. I will learn how to use and apply "If Clauses." Today is a virtual work day. You should first complete this Quia which will cover the Set #2 vocab from "La Economia" and also the conditional "if" clauses we've been working on: www.quia.com/quiz/8136138.html Next, you will read this article on "La Netiqueta" and answer the Cierto/Falso questions. Lastly, do some Indicative vs. Subjunctive practice with this sheet. On Wednesday you will have your first "for real / no training wheels" email task. It will be similar-ish to the one you did yesterday in class. Review the email task with this guide. Today in class we watched the cortometraje "El hombre que volaba un poquito." We first previewed vocabulary and pre-read the script. We then watched the short film pausing periodically to check for understanding. Today students started class by taking the Vocab Quiz over Set #1 from "La Economia" After the quiz, students received the "La Economia" Set 2 vocab list and we defined the words. Wednesday, November 30th Today in class we started reading the article "La Economia de Antes y de Hoy". Next, students completed these vocab exercises to prepare for Friday's vocab quiz. Today in class we watched a documentary on the avocado industry across the U.S., Chile, and Mexico which addressed environmental and globalization issues associated with its growth and consumption. Learning Targets: 1. How do I write a formal email in Spanish? 2. What are Spanish writing conventions? Today in class students wrote a 2nd email based on environmental topics. After the email students had the rest of the block to finish assembling their Interview Project presentations. Over the weekend, students should work on their powerpoint for their Interview Project Presentation. Here's a video to help you get your 30-second audio snippet saved and inserted into Powerpoint using Audacity: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzn7WvUV32s For those that will insert a video file, you will have to use Video Editor to cut out a 30-second clip. You will insert it into Powerpoint using the same method (just choose video file instead of audio file). Here is a model presentation from a former student. Thursday, November 3rd Learning Targets: 1. How do I write a formal email in Spanish? 2. What are Spanish writing conventions? Today in class we discussed how to tackle the Email portion of the AP exam. Here's the handout I gave students to help them formulate logical responses. Next, we completed this practice email from a previous AP exam. With the rest of the block students started making calacas. Wednesday, November 2nd Learning Targets: 1. What aspects of the Spanish-speaking world are similar/different from our communities here in the U.S. Today in class students had the whole block to prepare the powerpoint presentation portion for their Interview Project. Next, we went to the computer lab and students watched one video on an environmental topic (all the videos are attached in CTLS), and filled out this News Article sheet on the video they were assigned. After we finished the Gas Prices activity we took the Medioambiente Quiz #2. After the quiz, students practiced the subjunctive in Adverbial Clauses with this sheet. Next, students finished writing their horoscopes that we started last Friday and put it onto the class poster. The last half of the block students used their laptops to complete these 2 Quia activities on Adverb Clauses of the Subjunctive. Wednesday, October 26th Learning Targets: 1. Make transcription corrections and re-assess comprehension of individual's interviews 2. Write an interview project composition utilizing previously-acquired vocab and grammar resources. Today in class students had the whole block to continue/finish their Interview Project essays and study the vocab for Friday's quiz. If students had completed both those tasks, they started on the powerpoint presentation for their Interview Projects. I will learn how to use the future tense and adverb clauses of the subjunctive Today in class we took notes over how to use Adverb Clauses of the Subjunctive. After taking notes and going over examples students completed these workbook pages to practice this new skill. Students then finished yesterday's horoscope activity and wrote their final drafts to make their poster. With any left over time students studied the Medioambiente Set #2 vocab. Next, students were broken up into groups of 2-3 to write horoscopes according to their astrological sign. Students were given these description boxes and then based on the characteristics of their signs they wrote a horoscope utilizing the subjunctive, commands, and future tense according to the 5 steps listed in these instructions (look @ page 2 in the document) Friday, October 21st

Today in class we started with a BrainPop video over "Los humanos y el ambiente" to review our new vocab. Next, I gave students a model copy of a previous student's interview project essay which we read through together and analyzed it so students knew the kinds of things they should include in their own essays.
