Today in class students took the reading portion of the 2019 Released Exam. It was timed, and after we started defining our final vocab list (La Belleza y Estetica). Today in class we started by watching the final 3 travel presentations. Next, we reviewed the Persuasive Essay task of the AP Exam. Here's the powerpoint that explains the Persuasive Essay task. Students completed last year's prompt. Monday, May 1st Learning Target: 1. How to do the Cultural Comparison task on the AP Exam. Today in class we finished travel presentations from last week and then I gave back the feedback on the Interpersonal Speakings that were turned in from the Vida Contemporanea unit. Today in class we went over the feedback for the emails from the Vida Contemporanea unit and talked about the differences in Que' vs. Cua'l and reviewed some basic grammar/agreement issues that I see present in the students' writing. Today in class students took the vocab quiz on the Volunteerism vocab list. After the quiz, students visited this shared Audios Folder and re-listened to their Interpersonal Speakings. Students chose the best 1 of the activities they completed and then transcribed their part of the speaking using this transcription document. Next, students deleted the other 9 activities and shared with me the one activity they would like me to grade. Thursday, April 13th Learning Targets: 1. How to read, write, listen, and speak on the topic of volunteerism. 2. What is it and what are some different ways we can improve our communities through service. Today in class students we learned about 2 other ONGs started by Latinos/Hispanos aimed to improve education and disaster relief. The first is World Central Kitchen started by Spanish chef Jose Andres. We watched his Ted Talk on the disaster relief in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. The 2nd ONG we learned about "Pies Descalzos" founded by Shakira to bring education infrastructure and innovate educational resources and teachers to various areas of Colombia. Next, students completed a 4th AP email on a volunteer opportunity and then students selected the best one from the 4 emails we have done in the Vida Contemporanea Unit. Students submitted the best one for grading. Lastly, we completed 3 Interpersonal Speakings. Here is the Quia on Volunteerism Vocab for you to practice with as you have your quiz tomorrow! Tuesday, April 11th Learning Targets: 1. How to read, write, listen, and speak on the topic of volunteerism. 2. What is it and what are some different ways we can improve our communities through service. Today in class we read through this Volunteer Guide for Spain which outlines the full process of carrying out volunteer work in Spain. We also listened to this podcast on volunteerism in Australia and answered these questions. Lastly, we completed an email task on a topic from the education unit. How is northern Spain (Basque Country) Today in class I shared pictures and stories from my trip to northern Spain, and the last part of class we finished "Stand and Deliver" which students watched the day before Spring Break. I will learn the format of the National Spanish Exam Today in class we took the Proficiency portion of the National Spanish Exam. Students went to: www.lingco.io and then logged in with their gmail account. Afterward, students had the opportunity to prepare for the vocab/grammar portion of the exam. I will learn new vocabulary related to volunteerism and efforts to better our community. Today we started with our computers. The last part of the block we recorded 1 cultural comparison and 2 interpersonal speakings. Monday, March 27th Learning Targets: 1. How to write an AP-style Persuasive essay. Today in class students received their feedback on the first persuasive essay they wrote in class. I pulled 5 examples and students practiced scoring them and I pointed out strong and weak points in the samples. The last half of the block students took the vocab quiz over La Educacio'n y Las Carreras (Set #1). We then watched the film and answered the comprehension questions. Today in class we quickly reviewed the elements of the Persuasive Essay task and students pulled out their guided notes sheet from last week to help them today. Next, students completed the 2019 Persuasive Essay. Afterwards we talked about the sources to check for accuracy and students were paired up to peer read one another's essay. Today in class we read the article "Las escuelas que siguen a los chicos" to learn how education looks different in rural parts of Argentina along the Parana Delta. Next, students completed an email activity and we discussed it afterward. How to write an AP-style Persuasive essay. Today in class I introduced how to do the AP Spanish Persuasive Essay. Here is the powerpoint I went over with the class that breaks down the task. Students also received this handout that included the rubric for this task as well as a "phrase sheet" to help you in your writing. We analyzed the 2017 prompt together -- broke down the sources, and talked through the different argument points and then looked at the rubric and some student samples. Today in class we picked up reading the "Vida Estudiantil" section from the article "La Enseñanza Hispánica" which we started yesterday. Next, students received their Interpersonal speaking feedback from the Sci/Tech unit. We talked about recovery strategies and general tips for improving on these activities. The last 15 minutes we played Quizlet Live to keep familiarizing ourselves with the Education and Careers vocab. Today in class we went through the previewing questions and then read the article "La Enseñanza Hispánica." We got through most of it, but the last 20 minutes we completed a practice audio and learned how to interpret graphs with the activity: La equidad de género en la docencia. Today in class we watched the cortometraje "Namnala" - Here is the script and the vocab/quesitons for the film. You can watch the film in CTLS, but I can't post it here. Next, we completed the final 3 Interpersonal Speaking activities from the Sci/Tech unit. (Clara / Jorge #4 / Juan - 2017). After completing the speakings we listened to what a 1, 3, and a 5 sounds like and talked strategy to how to better improve the speaking task on the AP exam. Today we took time at the start of class to make sure everyone is registered for the AP Exam - students studied their vocab if they were already set. Next, students received feedback on the emails they submitted before break. I went over some general recommendations and over this grammar errors powerpoint to help avoid making some of the most common mistakes in the future. The last part of class students took this dietary habits survey and we compared and talked through the results. Monday, February 27th Learning Targets: I will learn... 1. Today we started class by watching 2 Brainpop en Espanol videos on "Los trastornos alimenticios" and "El peso corporal." Students were given this sheet which will help students organize their thoughts into Products, Practices, and Perspectives. We revisited the 2018 prompt on events that reflect our cultural identity and listened to what a 5, 3, and 1 sounds like and taught students how to evaluate using the rubric.
